With the newly launched “Stork Club” whisky range, consisting of a straight rye whisky, a single malt whisky and single-cask fillings, the SpreeWood Distillers have focus on selective cask management and the unusual microclimate of the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. This micro-climate with its seasonal temperature differences, unusually pronounced for Central Europe, ensures intensive interaction of the distillate with the casks and leaves a unique character in the whisky. The grain for the distillate is supplied by Germany’s breadbasket, right on the distillery’s doorstep: Brandenburg. Even American rye whisky producers trust in the quality of the rye cultivated here. The whiskies currently mature in bourbon and sherry casks, as well as in white wine casks of selected German wine-growers. All whiskies are filled without the addition of colourings and flavourings and without using cold filtration. Incidentally, “Stork Club” is the emblem of the region, dedicated to the stork. In spring, many stork couples find a breeding place around the distillery: the Club of Storks was born! We handcraft our whisky very traditionally. And yet we love breaking with conventions. It is not for nothing that we are Germany’s first rye whisky distillery! Whisky made of rye has a unique character. It is spicy and aromatic, and has a slight, natural sweetness. We only use the best German ryes for our whisky.

Steve Beam’s family name has long been associated with fine spirits. Steve Beam’s other ancestors, farmers Bowling & Burch, have left their imprint as well. Steve’s passions for distilling and agriculture have led to Bowling & Burch – a gin distilled and bottled at Limestone Branch Distillery that includes botanicals grown on site. It all started on a trip through Latin America. We didn’t really know what to expect and we certainly never thought one small, raw country would blow our minds as much as it did. But that’s exactly what happened and that’s why we’re here now, introducing Ron Colon to the world.

The vision? Creating the perfect blend of flavours, inspiring us and our fellow bartenders to create new rituals and cocktails centered around an entirely new take on rum. Because who doesn’t want to experience some surprise every now and then?

We were fascinated by this place that produces some of the finest sugar cane and coffee in the world. As bartenders, the thought of combining these top-notch ingredients with the rich flavour of rum blew our minds. And if it blows ours, we think it may just blow yours too.

At the moment we are maturing whiskeys which we have bought off the still from other distilleries, but everything we do, we do with pride and honesty and when the whiskey comes off our own stills in 2020, we will continue the same way.

Pelotón de la Muerte Mezcal is made by Zapotec maestro mezcalero Cutberto Santiago and his family in a small artisanal mezcal palenque in Santiago Matatlán, in the Central Valley of Oaxaca. Cutberto use ancient traditional methods, starting with cooking the Espadín agave in a stone pit oven for 4-6 days covered with lava rocks, after which it ferments for four days or more in wooden vats using only wild yeast from the ambient environment. It is then double-distilled with agave fiber in copper pot stills and bottled joven (unaged). All the wild agaves used to produce Pelotón de la Muerte are organically grown.

The name and label of Pelotón de la Muerte, which means Brigade of Death, commemorates the flag used by the insurgents during the Mexican Revolution who called themselves “the squadron of death for the suffering Hidalgo”, who tried to enact revenge for the death of the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the founding father of Mexico’s independence.

“Old Dan Tucker”, also known as “Ole Dan Tucker”, “Dan Tucker”, and other variants, is a popular American song. Its origins remain obscure; the tune may have come from oral tradition, and the words may have been written by songwriter and performer Dan Emmett.
